AcupunctureAcupuncture needles are relaxing and comfortable

Acupuncture is one of the pillars of traditional Chinese medicine and has been used for thousands of years as a complete system of medicine. Hair-thin needles are inserted into the body at specific points to treat and prevent illness.  Most people find acupuncture treatment to be very relaxing and even blissful.  Usually, the very slight initial prick is followed by a warm or tingling sensation that radiates across the body.  The mind then comes to rest, and the qi (life energy) of the body is encouraged to flow freely.

Moxibustion

In moxibustion, heat is applied to certain acupuncture points to stimulate and warm the meridians (pathways of qi). We often use indirect moxibustion, which involves holding a cigar-shaped stick of smoldering mugwort over the points indicated until a feeling of warmth penetrates deeply into the underlying tissues. Moxibustion is especially helpful for poor digestion, excessive feelings of cold, and certain types of sexual dysfunction.

Auriculotherapy

While originating in China, ear acupuncture was rigorously tested by French researchers in the 20th century. They found that the ear point correspondences formed a pattern resembling an inverted fetus in the womb. There are over 100 points in the ear, which may be used to treat all kinds of pain, digestive disturbances, addiction withdrawal, and more.

Gua Sha (Dermal Friction)

Gua Sha is another ancient technique often described as "scraping." Gua Sha tools are usually metal or ceramic instruments with a flat edge that is used to scrape against the skin’s surface to promote local circulation. The skin is first lubricated with massage oil to increase comfort. It is often combined with cupping to relieve muscular pain and to activate the body’s immune system.

Cupping

Cupping involves placing glass cups on the body, especially the back. The inside of the cup is first quickly heated to create a vacuum. It is then applied to the skin to form a suction of muscle and tissue. This stimulates strong blood flow to the area, which is helpful for relieving tension and muscle cramps. Cupping provides strong manipulation to the muscles and feels great! Important Note: Cupping often produces superficial bruising that typically lasts from 2 to 5 days. These bruises are not painful, but you may find them unsightly. On the other hand, you may want to show them off like Gwenyth Paltrow did a while back.

Herbal Therapy

Depending on your situation, herbal formulas may be appropriate. These products can supplement and enhance your treatment sessions. In fact, for some conditions, they are the most important and effective treatment modality.

Traditionally, these formulas include a variety of different herbs which are combined and cooked into a tea. Today, many standardized formulas are available as pills or powders.

The products we stock are guaranteed certified GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and are free of heavy metals. Herbs can be very beneficial, but they should not be taken indiscriminately. Be sure to follow the labeled dosage and call your physician and us if you experience any adverse effects.
